Cryosurgery

Cryosurgery is the treatment of lesions with the application of a cold substance. In most cases, liquid nitrogen is used to destroy the lesion(s).

During treatment with liquid nitrogen a stinging sensation starts and may continue through thawing, but settles within a few minutes. If you get pain later on you may take Tylenol (acetaminophen).

Redness and some swelling can be expected and within 24 to 48 hours a water (or blood) blister may form. Do not open this blister should one appear. The blister will dry up on its own.

The treated lesion should peel or drop off in about two week’s time and a scaly crust may form on the wound. Complete healing should be expected in about three week’s time.

If you have any cause for concern, please contact the office

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CARE (once daily until healed)
  1. Clean the blister sites with soap and water.
  2. Apply Vaseline ointment.
  3. A band-aid may be applied loosely over the blister until it is dry.
  4. Call the office if signs of infection occur. (redness, swelling, heat, increased pain, yellow discharge)
