Latisse
According to dermatologists like Dr. Marc Darst, Latisse is a compound that is known as an analog of a protein in the body which causes different things to occur. One such thing is eyelash growth.
The discovery of Latisse as an effective treatment for eyelash growth was somewhat of an accident. It was developed originally as a glaucoma medication, and eye doctors noticed something when the patients took the medication. If they only had glaucoma in one eye and when they placed Latisse in that eye, the eye lashes grew longer on that one side. Then they reported this phenomenon to the Allergan Corporation and an application for the medication was developed, to be painted on the eyelid to grow eyelashes.
Patients who use Latisse need to apply it every night to the upper eyelashes with a special applicator brush which looks like an eyeliner brush. One drop is applied to the upper eyelids, right along where normal eyeliner would be applied. Once the patient sleeps and when the eyelids are closed, some of the Latisse medication migrates down to the lower eyelid, causing those lashes to grow as well.
Latisse medication is used every night and after two to three months, patients can expect to notice longer eyelash growth, with the majority of the growth being as long as it’s going to be by about four months. Then, the medication is continued each night to keep the eyelashes at that length. The eyelashes will grow to a different length in each person. So it’s normal for some people to get more growth and fullness than others.
Many of Dr. Darst’s female patients have told him that they did not like to apply mascara because it was hard to apply it on eyelashes that are thin and short. But, after using Latisse, they consider it more of a pleasure to apply mascara.
The Latisse medication comes in a package, in a small dropper bottle with sterile applicators enough for two months’ use. At Dr. Darst’s dermatology office, Latisse medication is administered with a cost of $120 per bottle, which works out roughly to about $2 per day. And, almost all of the female patients at Dr. Darst’s practice have used Latisse and love it.
