What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is considered to be one of the safest treatment methods for natural skincare, since it does not cause any damage to the skin or the epidermis, unlike other skincare treatments such as chemical peels or dermabrasion. There are, in fact, many benefits to microneedling, including that it is suitable for all skin types, even thin and sensitive skin on any body part, and there is no fear of hyper pigmentation.

Microneedling employs the use of a special derma roller that is covered with many tiny needles. As this roller moves across the skin, the needles create tiny holes but without damaging the epidermis, or the outer layer of skin.  These rollers are well-suited for non-surgical and non-ablative treatment of various skin conditions, such as scarring, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation,  stretch marks and improve overall skin tone and texture.

Microneedling is a revolutionary procedure, in that it will act the same as other lasers and ablative methods by increasing the production of collagen, but without damaging the protective layer of skin.

When preparing for your microneedling procedure, it is important that you adhere to certain guidelines so that you obtain optimal results.

  • Avoid retinoids and treatments for autoimmune disease for 24 hours prior to your treatment.
  • Avoid sun exposure to the area to be treated for 24 hours prior.
  • Arrive at our office ready for your procedure with a clean face and no makeup.
  • Do not schedule this procedure if you have used Accutane or Isotretinoin within the past six months.

Preparation and an understanding of facial resurfacing are key to a successful treatment.

Procedure for the Microneedling treatment:

Microneedling employs the use of a unique roller covered with fine needles that, when delicately rolled over the skin, will cause enough injury to the outer layer of the skin to stimulate collagen and elastin production.  The skin’s response to the microneedling technique is an increase in plumpness and thickness, with a reduction in the appearance of scars, stretch marks and fine lines.

What is Collagen P.I.N.?

(Percutaneous Induction Needling, also referred to as PCIT, Percutaneous Collagen Induction Therapy… a.k.a. micro-needling)

Collagen P.I.N. is a method of introducing a controlled wound into the skin triggering a release of growth factors, new collagen & elastin. This process causes

How many Collagen P.I.N. treatments will I need?

Typically a series of 3-6 Collagen P.I.N. treatments is recommended, depending upon your area of correction or concern. Your skincare professional will ultimately determine a treatment schedule based on your individual goals and desires. Treatments are usually spaced in 4 week intervals. Patients with deep wrinkles, advanced sun damage, stretch marks, or any type of scars, usually require 6 or more treatments to achieve the desired results.

What is the method of application for Collagen P.I.N.?

A sterile disposable needle cartridge, holding 12 micro needles is glided across the skin with the Collagen P.I.N. device that mechanically induces a micro injury to the desired depth chosen for your skin by your medical provider. The Collagen P.I.N. creates micro channels which allows topicals and serums to reach the true targeted areas, producing a much more efficacious result.

Will the Collagen P.I.N. procedure hurt?Microneedling Before and After Pictures Charlotte, NC

Prior to your treatment with the Collagen P.I.N., the medical provider will apply a topical numbing agent. Most people say they feel almost nothing after having been pretreated with a topical numbing agent.

How long will it take for me to see results from my Collagen P.I.N. treatment?

Most all patients see results after the first Collagen P.I.N. treatment. Individual results vary depending on individual skin health. It is most common to begin to see true changes or positive results as soon as 1-2 weeks after the first treatment. Many patients comment on positive changes in even less time. (often change is noted within just a few days)

How long will my Collagen P.I.N. results last?

Collagen P.I.N. produces results through the stimulation of growth factors and collagen, thereby promoting new skin cells to surface. As our skin ages, our collagen production naturally slows down. Your overall result will last longer when using an at home skin care regimen that includes a daily Retinoid product. Your medical provider is best suited to make this recommendation. New collagen & elastin formation in the skin are documented as visually and measurably improved as much as one year after just one treatment. However, a series of treatments is typically recommended for best results.

What will I look like after my Collagen P.I.N. treatment?Microneedling Before and After Pictures Charlotte, NC

Collagen P.I.N. is considered a no downtime treatment. Immediately after your treatment your skin will look slightly pink to moderately red. Your medical provider will recommend skin care products for your post care based on your individual skin, which will greatly minimize these symptoms and enhance your overall results.

Can I use Makeup after having my Collagen P.I.N. treatment?

Directly after your treatment we recommend using only mineral based foundation, as it cannot build bacteria. You may go back to your regular foundation 4 days post treatment.
