At Darst Dermatology in Charlotte, NC we are currently recruiting individual as research participants.
Acne Clinical Trial:
This study is testing a nutritional supplement for people living with moderate to severe acne. Common treatment options for acne include over-the-counter (OTC) topicals and face washes, as well as prescribed retinoids, birth controls, and antibiotics. While some OTC treatments can be useful for some individuals, often retinoids and antibiotics will be required for moderate to severe cases. Unfortunately, the side effects of certain retinoids and antibiotics can be unpleasant for certain patients. This is why researchers are exploring how a natural supplement may help manage acne vulgaris and erythema (redness/inflammation associated with acne).
If you wish to manage your acne with a plant-based and natural alternative, please consider participating in this study. You may be eligible to participate if you:
- are between the ages of 16-45
- have moderate to severe acne presenting on the face
- have not used a retinoid for treatment in the past 6 months (ex: isotretinoin, tretinoin, retinol)
- do not smoke
Study Participation Overview
People who enroll in the study will be randomly assigned to a receive either an investigational nutritional supplement or a placebo. A placebo looks like the investigational supplement, but it won’t have any effect on the person who gets it.
Qualified participants will receive study-related care and nutritional supplements at no cost. They will need to complete 6 office visits over the course of 16 weeks, and they may be compensated up to $200 per visit for time and travel.
