Darst Dermatology offers personalized Glycolic Peels in Charlotte, Matthews, and the surrounding North Carolina communities.
What Is a Glycolic Peel?
A Glycolic Peel is comprised of glycolic acid, a gentle alpha hydroxy acid that works by dissolving the bonds between skin cells. It works differently from other chemical peels, has very minimal side effects, if any, and requires only little downtime. In fact, it is one of the mildest skin peels available.
A Glycolic Peel is gentle enough for all skin types and provides an exfoliation that fades fine lines, wrinkles, blemishes, sun damage and acne scars.
How Does It Work?
Glycolic Peels take about 20 minutes. The patient’s face is thoroughly cleansed and then the glycolic acid solution is applied with a sponge to the treated areas, where it remains for several minutes. Because the peel may sting, the peel will then be neutralized with an alkaline substance.
Are There Any Side Effects?
For the first two or three days after the procedure, you may experience a sunburn-like effect with redness and possible swelling while the outer layers of the skin dry up and peel away. You may continue to use makeup, if desired, though use of a regular moisturizer and daily application of SPF 30 sunscreen is recommended.
